NATALIE
Counsellor
MA Counselling, Grad. Dip of Counselling, BA Psych. Sciences, Cert IV Mental Health

My name is Natalie and I am a lived-experience counsellor registered with the Australian Counselling Association (ACA, Level 3). In the therapy space I see myself as a guide, where I hold a warm and empathic space for you to connect with the challenges as well as the joys of your experiences. Together we walk the paths that you choose each session, where you can process emotions that maybe never had a chance to be heard, heal and release burdens you have been carrying, and experiment with tools that support you to make meaningful and lasting change.

I see such strength and courage in the people I work with, and I truly believe that we all have the capacity to live peacefully and confidently. My approach is guided by evidence-based modalities including Internal Family Systems (IFS), Coherence Therapy, and Somatic Interventions (Polyvagal and yoga informed movement). These approaches are designed to promote transformational change (those aha! moments when the penny drops) as well as to help us develop a new relationship with ourselves through incremental change (the small, daily practices that strengthen our capacity to pause, and shift toward a calm and empowered response). My intentions as your therapeutic guide is for you to become your own self-led healer, and cultivate sustainable, long-term change.

Developing connection and trust with my clients is the first step in the process of healing. I often work with clients who face challenges with complex trauma, mood concerns, attachment style difficulties, and challenging relationship patterns. In our first session together we would get to know each other, and I would gently ask questions to help identify what has been challenging, as well the qualities and experiences you would like to reconnect with. As our sessions continue, you may notice new insights, clarity, calmness, and a newfound (or long lost!) confidence.

When not in the counselling space, I love to practice yoga, meditate, create art, and spend time with my puppies Millie and Frankie. My happiest place on Earth is in the rainforested area of northern NSW. :)

Therapy

What makes Inner Wisdom stand out?

Trained in Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapy (Level 1) and Coherence Therapy, Natalie implements experiential techniques that go beyond traditional talk therapy.

These models engage the brain's natural memory reconsolidation process. Memory reconsolidation allows for rapid transformation of traumatic memories, thereby dissolving symptoms such as anxiety, people pleasing, self-sabotage, and depression (to name a few). For some, this change happens more effectively with experiential approaches than with other styles of talk therapy.

Acknowledgement

I respectfully acknowledge the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples as the Traditional Owners and Custodians of the lands and waters we are fortunate to share. I pay deep respect to Elders past, present, and emerging, and honour the world’s oldest living culture. I also recognise the enduring impact of colonization and that sovereignty was never ceded. This land always was, and always will be, Aboriginal land.

I celebrate the richness of diversity in our community and recognise that there is still important work to be done to truly honour and inclusively embrace people of all ethnicities, genders, sexual orientations, ages, socioeconomic backgrounds, abilities, religions, faiths, and beliefs.
